Q: How do I report a litter, illegal dumping or open burning violation in Berkeley 
     County?
   

A: Call (843) 719-2676 and report the incident. If at all possible, give the location, time, 
     date, vehicle tag number, description  of vehicle and anything else you
think is 
     important to the situation.

Q: Does a Law Enforcement Officer have to see me litter or dumping for me to get
     in trouble?

A: No. Any citizen who is willing to go to court and testify under oath what they observed
    can result in you receiving a summons for littering.

Q: Are cigarette butts considered litter?          

A: Yes, cigarette butts are litter. Anything that is thrown out of, or escapes, a vehicle 
     
is considered litter.

Q: If trash is in bags, do we still need to cover the bags while transporting 
     the load?
  

A: Yes. If your load comes above the horizontal plane of your truck or trailer and/or   
    
has the potential to escape, it must be covered.

Q: Can I burn waste/trash in Berkeley County?   

A: No. The only waste that can be burned in South Carolina is yard debris (leaves, 
    
straw, limbs) after notifying the local fire department or the Forestry Commission 
   
 at (800) 895-7063 to request a burn permit.

Q:  What constitutes as a water or sewer violation?

A: When a resident willfully or negligently break, damage, destroy, uncover, deface 
    
or tamper with any structure or equipment which is part of BCWS’s water or sewer 
     
system. Blocking access to any of our meters is considered tampering also.
